Is it an attack of the gall stones?

I woke up this morning thinking I was having a heart attack...but as the pain made it's way down under my rib cage on my right side and up into my shoulder blades and I started feeling quesy, I was thinking more along the lines of a gall bladder attack.

I have never had one, but have read about them. I popped a couple of D-Gas tablets, hoping that it might just be very bad integestion.....but 3.5 hours later I was still in terrible pain, who was I kidding.

I managed to get myself into the office (I know! but I didn't want to take sick leave 2 days before going on Annual Leave) and rang my surgeon...he said it sounded like gall stones and that I was to go to the emergency room later this morning at the hospital he is doing surgeries at this morning. He is going to meet me there and do a scan and some blood tests.

He said then they can decide on the outcome (surgery or no surgery)....whether I go to Cambodia or not....UMM THAT IS NOT AN OPTION! I will be going to Cambodia....just dose me up on medication and I will deal with the Gallbladder when I get back.....seriously

I hope............

The pain is subsiding to almost non-existent, so I am hoping that I will be ok for the trip......so now I sit here waiting to get a taxi to the hospital....and because of those D-gas tablets farting and burping like a tropper!

That does sound strikingly like my gall bladder issues. That's how my first one struck too... first thing in the morning & I felt like it was a heart issue at first. Then I freaked that I was miscarrying. But the pain subsided & I was better for a few days. I suffered them for my entire pregnancy, including on a couple of long flights. So, hopefully you can live on good pain meds til after your trip. Feel better soon! Good luck!!

OMG... My little Roo, What will you do? A little Suessical to cheer you up. I'm afraid of you going to Cambodia and getting worse. I will be thinking of you and praying for your painfree, carefree vacation.

if it is a minor blockage or infection you can probably tough it out in Cambodia...but watch the fats you eat like crazy. When you eat fat-as I understand it-that is when your gallbladder does its thang. It squirts out bile to metabolize the fat. If you avoid the fat it has nothing to do and you can minimize the pain.

Now on the other hand if it is just a huge old rock trying to get out or completely blocked open or closed you will probably have to have the sucker fixed quickly.

I had mine out pre-band and it was a little more painful than the band installation. The recovery took about the same amount of time until back to work.

Good luck and I am hoping your Cambodia trip goes ahead.

Roo it certainly sounds like it. I had mine out 3 days before Christmas. Gallstones are VERY common in lapbanders because one way they come up is through rapid weight loss. If you eat fatty foods that might make the pain worse. I'd get it checked as you don't want a stone moving.

Yikes, gall stones can sure hurt! It sure sounds like that is whats happening to you. I had mine out after I had my daughter and it was a piece of cake. However, I still had 2 attacks after it was out?! Turns out certain medicines can be spasmodics -best avoided! Good luck to you! Hope you can make your trip!
